Greek authorities have arrested the crew of an Italian leisure boat after it was intercepted off the island of Skopelos with illegally harvested coral estimated to be worth 800,000 euros ($920,000).
Greece's ANA news agency reported the interception, and a spokesman for the Independent Authority for Public Revenue confirmed it.
The coral is protected under EU and Greek environmental legislation. ANA said officials also found diving equipment, cutting tools and makeshift storage areas, which it said indicated organised and repeated activity.
