Ghana names Kenneth Gilbert Adjei defence minister
Ghanaian President John Mahama named Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as defence minister on Friday, nearly a year after former defence minister Edward Omane Boamah died in a military helicopter crash.
Adjei, 47, had been housing minister. He previously served as deputy defence minister between 2015 and 2017 during Mahama's earlier administration.
The appointment was part of a cabinet reshuffle that also included nominations for the environment, science and technology and local government portfolios. Ghana is dealing with regional security concerns linked to instability in the Sahel, cross-border crime and maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea.
