Gaza plan: Jared Kushner to visit Israel after rejection

A Board of Peace official said Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's envoy and son-in-law, will visit Israel next week to discuss a Gaza plan rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Kushner is due to travel with Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace high representative for Gaza. The official said they would visit both Israel and Egypt, a key mediator.

The trip follows Netanyahu's public rejection of a 15-point plan announced by Mladenov. Under the plan, Hamas agreed to hand over its weapons to a new Palestinian governing committee in Gaza.

The Board of Peace official said Kushner and Mladenov hoped for “constructive conversations” on advancing Trump's wider peace plan, which began with an October 2025 declaration of a ceasefire. The ceasefire has reduced but not ended Israeli strikes in Gaza.

The latest phase, which Hamas agreed to in late July, would start a phased Israeli withdrawal from much of the Gaza Strip, according to an initial version released by the Board of Peace. Mladenov later said Israel would not need to withdraw troops until Hamas had fully disarmed.

Netanyahu has vowed there will be no pullout and has questioned whether Hamas would disarm, saying its weapons should be destroyed in a verifiable way.
