Gaza officials say Israeli attacks killed 11, including children

Gaza's civil defence agency and hospitals said Israeli attacks on Saturday killed 11 people across the territory, including three children and their parents.

A family of five was killed when an Israeli strike hit a residential apartment in northwest Gaza City, according to the civil defence agency, which operates as a rescue service under Hamas. Mahmoud Bassal, the agency's spokesman, said the only surviving member of the family was a child who was not inside the home at the time. Al-Shifa hospital confirmed that it received the five bodies.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said a strike was carried out in Gaza City on Saturday targeting a Hamas terrorist, and said the military was still assessing the results.

Gaza resident Mousa Al-Aimawi said the strike happened without warning. Mohammed Kali, who lives in the same building, said he saw bodies on the ground, including women and children. Footage from the scene showed large parts of the building's facade torn away as rescue teams helped wounded people and onlookers searched through rubble.

The civil defence agency said three more people were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit a group of civilians in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City. Al-Shifa hospital confirmed that it received those three bodies.

Bassal later said a woman was killed when Israeli artillery shelling struck a tent sheltering displaced people east of Zeitoun. Al-Ahli Hospital confirmed that it received the woman's body and several wounded people, including her daughter. Bassal said several people were wounded and three others remained missing in the targeted area.

Health officials said two other people were killed elsewhere in Israeli attacks in Gaza. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on those attacks.

A ceasefire remains in place between Israel and Hamas, but violence has continued in Gaza and efforts to reach a lasting agreement to end the war have stalled. Before Friday's casualties, Gaza's health ministry said at least 1,144 Palestinians had been killed since the truce took effect last October. The ministry operates under Hamas authority, and the United Nations considers its figures reliable. The Israeli military says five soldiers and one civilian contractor have died in Gaza over the same period.

Restrictions on media outlets and limited access in Gaza prevent independent verification of tolls and free coverage of the violence there.
