Galatasaray ultras chief raid finds $1.3m, media say

Turkish police found more than $1.3 million in cash, gold and jewellery at the home of Sebahattin Sirin, leader of Galatasaray's ultrAslan supporters' group, Turkish news agencies DHA and IHA reported Monday.

The agencies said the eight-and-a-half-hour raid also found more than 840,000 euros, or about $970,000, in addition to other currencies, a handgun, ammunition and four bulletproof vests.

Sirin was arrested on Sunday. He is accused of selling tickets on the black market, causing breaches of the peace inside sports stadiums and spreading false information.

The previous day, Sirin accused Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek on X of being part of a “group within the state” that wanted Fenerbahce to become champions this season at the expense of reigning Super Lig winner Galatasaray.

Neither Gurlek nor Fenerbahce, Galatasaray's cross-town rival, has publicly responded to that accusation.
