Europe heat above 35C to affect 92 million, AFP says
Areas of Europe home to at least 92 million people are set to face temperatures above 35C on Wednesday, particularly in France, Italy and Spain, according to AFP calculations during the continent's latest heatwave.
AFP calculated that temperatures are forecast to exceed 30C for more than half of Europe's population, excluding Turkey, amounting to about 300 million people.
The analysis was based on German weather service forecasts and 2025 population projections from the Joint Research Centre. AFP said the results were consistent with calculations by the Austrian NGO Klimadashboard.
