Erdogan gave NATO leaders pistols, Starmer says

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered pistols as gifts to fellow leaders who attended this week's NATO summit in Ankara, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, according to the Press Association.

Starmer told British reporters on his flight home that the pistols were inscribed with each leader's name and came with a box of ammunition.

He said he had to leave his gift in Turkey because importing it into Britain would be illegal, despite a letter from Erdogan lifting export controls on the weapons.

The summit was Starmer's last major international event after he announced his resignation on June 22. He is due to remain in office until the ruling Labour Party chooses a new prime minister.
