Lagarde says Middle East fighting could lift inflation risks
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said fresh fighting in the Middle East could push inflation higher than expected. Speaking at a press conference after the ECB announced that it was keeping its key deposit rate unchanged, Lagarde said the risks to the inflation outlook were now tilted upward. She said an energy shock could intensify further and that its effects on other prices and wages could be stronger than currently expected.
