Durand-Ruel collection with Monet and Renoir works to be auctioned in Paris with estimate up to €43.4m

About 60 works collected by art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, including works by artists such as Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir and Pablo Picasso, will be auctioned in Paris in October, Christie’s said Monday.

Christie’s said the collection, “Durand-Ruel. Generations of Vision,” is estimated at €30.4 million to €43.4 million. The auction house said the works were acquired directly from Monet, Renoir, Pissarro or Sisley, kept in the same family for more than a century, and are being brought together on the market for the first time.

The collection will be exhibited at Christie’s in Paris from October 16 to 21 and offered at auction on October 22 during Art Basel.

The works include Monet’s “Edge of the Cliffs at Pourville” from 1882, estimated at €11 million to €15 million. Christie’s said Durand-Ruel bought it in the year it was painted and later exhibited it in London in 1905.

Other works listed include Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Young Girls by the Seaside,” Camille Pissarro’s “The Louvre, Winter Sun, Morning” and Pablo Picasso’s “Still Life with Gruyere.”
