Cuban migrants rescued by Mexico navy after days at sea
Mexico's navy said Thursday it had rescued a group of Cuban migrants, including seven minors, who went missing at sea last week.
Cuban and US media reported that the migrants set sail from Pinar del Rio in western Cuba on August 11. Their whereabouts had been unknown since then.
A Cuban man living in Mexico, whose two children were travelling on the boat with their mother, told Univision on Monday that he had received word the boat was low on fuel.
Cubans seeking to leave the island have for decades risked dangerous sea journeys toward the United States or Mexico. Some crossings have ended with migrants drowning or being returned by coast guard authorities.
Uncertainty notes
The total number of rescued migrants was not supplied.
The exact rescue location and the migrants' condition were not supplied.
