China exports rise 23.9% in July, imports up 27.5%
China's exports rose 23.9% year on year in July and imports increased 27.5%, the General Administration of Customs said on Friday.
The July import gain was below a 36% increase in June. Customs data also showed overseas shipments of computers and related parts rose 45.2% from a year earlier in the first seven months, as demand for data-processing equipment and related components has increased during the expansion of artificial intelligence capacity.
Shipments to the United States rose 17% year on year in July, according to the data, despite continuing trade tensions between Beijing and Washington.
China recorded a trade surplus of nearly $1.2 trillion last year, helping its manufacturing sector during weak domestic consumption. The latest trade figures followed Beijing's announcement on Wednesday of restrictions on drone exports to the United States and the blacklisting of six firms after US sanctions over forced labour and national security concerns.
