Charlie Kirk suspect cried after killing, roommate says

Tyler Robinson, the man accused of murdering right-wing campaigner Charlie Kirk, cried days after the killing and said he wished he had not done it, his roommate Lance Twiggs told investigators in video testimony played in a US court Thursday.

The testimony came on the fourth day of a Utah hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to try Robinson, 23, over Kirk's killing on a university campus last September.

“I just asked him in person if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was,” Twiggs said in the taped interview. “He started crying a little bit, and said he wishes he hadn’t done it.”

Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted. Investigators earlier said Robinson confessed to the killing in text messages to Twiggs and indicated he was fed up with the “hatred” Kirk spread.

Twiggs told investigators that Robinson sometimes discussed politics but said he had not heard him talk specifically about Kirk before the killing. Twiggs also said the couple had “not really” discussed transgender people and the LGBT community in the United States.

The Utah proceedings were expected to finish Friday.
