Brussels records hottest day at 35.9C

Brussels recorded its hottest day on record on Friday, reaching 35.9C, Belgium's IRM weather agency said.

Belgium is among several European countries experiencing heatwaves that have broken records. AFP calculations found that parts of Europe home to at least 150 million people had temperatures above 35C on Friday.

Scientific experts say human-made climate change has made such heat more extreme and more frequent, and that Europe has become the world's fastest-warming continent.
