Bondi Beach attack hero Ahmed al Ahmed has charges dropped

Australian police dropped charges Wednesday against Ahmed al Ahmed, the fruit seller praised for disarming a gunman during last year's Bondi Beach mass shooting.

Ahmed had been accused earlier this year of stalking and assaulting his father. He denied the charges, and both were withdrawn after a brief hearing, court documents showed.

Footage from the December 14 attack showed Ahmed ducking between parked cars before grabbing one of two gunmen and taking away his weapon in an effort to stop the killing. He sustained gunshot wounds in the attack.

The shooting killed 15 people at a Jewish festival. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese later met Ahmed and described him as a “true Australian hero” and an inspiration to all.
