Boko Haram attack kills Niger forces, state media says
Niger's state ANP news agency said security force members were killed after a Boko Haram attack on the outskirts of N'Guigmi, a garrison town in the Diffa region near Lake Chad.
Local residents told AFP that around 10 soldiers were killed in the attack on Friday. Other residents posting on social media also said 10 soldiers were killed and said four national guard personnel died as well.
ANP did not give a death toll. It said Diffa's governor, General Mahamadou Ibrahim, travelled to N'Guigmi to oversee the burial of security force members killed in the attack.
The Lake Chad region is shared by Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad. Boko Haram has camps in the area, and violence from the insurgency that began in 2009 has spread across borders.
