Belgium missing boy: child's body found near Onhaye

Belgian authorities said a child's body was found near Onhaye on August 24 in the search for five-year-old Tymeo Brigou, who went missing with his father in June.

Prosecutors said the child had not been formally identified. They said items found at the scene suggested it could be Tymeo.

Police had been looking for Tymeo and his father, 29-year-old Bryan Brigou, after they were last seen in Onhaye, southern Belgium, on June 27. Prosecutors said police found the body at about 11:00 a.m. after a new witness statement.

Authorities said they had not found Bryan Brigou despite deploying significant resources in the area.

Prosecutors said the circumstances and cause of the child's death were not yet known, and that investigators were examining all possibilities.

Belgian media had earlier reported that Bryan Brigou was wearing an electronic bracelet when he disappeared because of a sentence for violent acts. His car was found abandoned in Onhaye after the pair were reported missing. Police had earlier declined to say whether they believed Bryan Brigou had abducted his son.
