Beijing robot games use 5G-A network, Huawei says

Huawei said China Unicom Beijing and Huawei built a 5G-A GigaUplink network for the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games at Beijing’s National Speed Skating Oval.

The games opened on August 23 at the venue also known as the Ice Ribbon. Huawei said the network supports event operations, robot competition and spectator services.

Huawei said this year’s games include 1,301 competitions across 51 events, with 2,056 humanoid robots from 666 teams worldwide. It said the number of events has risen from 26 at the first games to 51, with additions including table tennis, kickboxing and scenario-based competitions in settings such as industrial production, hotels, homes and logistics.

According to Huawei, China Unicom Beijing and Huawei deployed a dedicated 100 MHz network and a 300 MHz LampSite ultra-wideband indoor network. Huawei said a dedicated 5QI 7 slice combined with carrier isolation keeps end-to-end latency for humanoid robots within 30 milliseconds.

Huawei also said the system integrates BeiDou RTK positioning and that on-site tests recorded a peak uplink speed of 1 Gbps, with average latency below 30 milliseconds.

Huawei said China Unicom has developed what it described as China’s first embodied AI robot management platform for event scenarios, allowing staff to monitor each robot’s location, competition status and operating data in real time.

Uncertainty notes

The performance figures and platform claims are company claims from Huawei and were not independently verified in the supplied material.
