Bangladesh-India cricket series in doubt amid talks

Bangladesh and India are trying to save a six-match cricket tour planned for next month, with the foreign ministers of both countries involved in talks.

The white-ball series is made up of three one-day internationals and three T20 matches. It was originally planned for August last year but was postponed after relations between Dhaka and New Delhi worsened.

Bangladesh Sports Minister Aminul Haque said late Monday that the issue was being worked on at ministerial level and that talks were ongoing between the two foreign ministers.

Dhaka and New Delhi have been at odds since Bangladesh's 2024 mass uprising toppled then prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India and remains in hiding there.

In February, Bangladesh refused to send a team to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. The International Cricket Council refused Bangladesh's request to play its matches in Sri Lanka, and Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the tournament.

India last toured Bangladesh for a cricket series in 2022, winning the two-Test series 2-0 while Bangladesh won the one-day internationals 2-1. Bangladesh toured India in September and October 2024 for two Tests and two T20 matches, with India winning both formats.
