Bahrain says it intercepted Iranian attacks

Bahrain said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks on Tuesday morning, as fighting between Washington and Tehran escalated over the Strait of Hormuz.

Bahrain's military said in a statement that air defences had stopped several attacks launched by Iran. It also accused Tehran of targeting civilians.

Iran said it had targeted Bahrain in retaliation for US attacks on Iranian territory. Iran's Revolutionary Guards earlier said they had carried out missile and drone strikes on Bahrain.

Explosions were heard in the Bahraini capital by an AFP journalist after warning sirens sounded for the third time since dawn. Bahrain's defence ministry said on X that sirens had been set off and urged citizens and residents to remain calm and go to the nearest safe place.
