Amazon Prime Video to invest $2bn in Latin America

Amazon said it will invest $2 billion in Latin American productions for its Prime Video streaming service through 2030, covering original and licensed programming as well as sports.

The company announced the plan in Mexico City and said it aims to double original productions from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile.

Amazon said 25 new titles will premiere in 2027, with another 25 to follow in 2028. Recent Latin American Prime Video productions include “Menem,” about former Argentine president Carlos Menem, and “La Oficina,” a Mexican adaptation of “The Office.”

Oscar-winning screenwriter Armando Bo is directing an adaptation of “Las Malas,” Camila Sosa Villada's novel about a community of trans sex workers in Argentina.

Kelly Day, Prime Video's vice president of international, said Latin America's talent, stories and audiences were driving the investment. Javiera Balmaceda, head of original Prime productions for Latin America, said global audiences respond when Latin American storytellers receive resources.
