Alaska Senate race features three Dan Sullivans

Alaska's US Senate race has taken an unusual turn, with three politically involved men named Dan Sullivan now part of the campaign narrative.

The Republican incumbent is Senator Dan S. Sullivan, who has President Donald Trump's backing. Another Republican, retired schoolteacher Dan J. Sullivan, is also seeking to run.

The Republican Party has tried to force Dan J. Sullivan out of the race, claiming he entered as a spoiler to confuse voters and draw support from the incumbent. Alaska's top court ruled last month that he can stay in the race.

A third Dan Sullivan, former Anchorage mayor Dan A. Sullivan, has urged voters to support the senator. Calling himself the “OG Dan Sullivan,” he wrote on Facebook that Alaskans should vote for Sen. Dan S. Sullivan.

Democrat Mary Peltola is also running. The Senate race is expected to matter in the fight for control of Congress after the November midterm elections.
