AFP selects five sub-Saharan Africa features
AFP said it had selected five reports from sub-Saharan Africa for republication, covering coastal erosion in Nigeria, a mysterious illness affecting elephants in Kenya, Nigerian kidnapping survivors, Senegal's slavery-linked architectural past and rising Kenyan lake waters pushing crocodiles closer to homes.
The selection includes a report from Ayetoro in southern Nigeria, where homes have been swallowed by the ocean as the beach shrinks; a report from Kimana in southern Kenya on elephant deaths from an ailment described as still mysterious; and a report from Ilorin, Nigeria, on women and children recovering after six months of captivity in the bush.
It also includes a report from Saint-Louis, Senegal, on disappearing traces of the island's role in the transatlantic slave trade, and a report from Baringo, Kenya, on how rising lake waters are affecting families and local businesses.
