Afghanistan aid: 724 trucks enter from Pakistan, UN says

The United Nations said 724 trucks carrying international humanitarian aid crossed into Afghanistan through Torkham from Pakistan, despite a near-total closure of the land border between the two countries.

Olga Cherevko, spokeswoman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan, said the convoy was carrying food and other critical humanitarian items. Mo Yahya, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for Pakistan, said the trucks were carrying humanitarian cargo to families in need.

The border has been almost entirely closed since October 2025 following clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, disrupting aid delivery routes.

The World Food Programme warned in early August that acute child malnutrition in Afghanistan had reached critical levels. It said nearly 14 million Afghans are facing acute hunger after deadly earthquakes last year, several climate-related disasters this year and the return of millions of Afghans from Iran and Pakistan since 2023.
