US trade deficit narrows to $105bn in September

The US trade deficit narrowed slightly in September to $105.0 billion, Commerce Department data showed on Wednesday.

The trade gap decreased by 0.6 percent and remained close to its widest level since March 2025.

Imports rose by 1.2 percent to $426.6 billion, driven by computers and their accessories. Crude oil imports decreased by $1.3 billion.

Exports rose by 1.8 percent to $321.5 billion, with oil, food and capital goods contributing to the increase.

US trade flows have shifted since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, as businesses moved ahead of his tariffs on trading partners.
