Thomas Markle devices held child abuse material, police say
Philippine police said Wednesday that three memory cards and a cellphone turned over by the son of Thomas Markle contained child sexual abuse material, as investigators examine items connected to Meghan Markle's estranged father.
Philippine national police chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr said investigators still needed to establish where the material came from, who may be responsible and whether Philippine laws were violated.
“It is not enough to simply come across some materials and immediately draw conclusions,” Nartatez said.
Thomas Markle has denied all claims against him.
The police statement came after Philippine authorities said last week they were investigating a laptop found alongside images of child abuse at an alleged former residence of Markle, whose daughter is married to Britain's Prince Harry.
Mexican authorities also raided a storage unit rented by Thomas Markle as part of the inquiry. The Baja California state prosecutor's office said it had received an anonymous tip about child sex abuse material in the unit. Investigators said computer equipment was taken for further examination.
Uncertainty notes
Investigators have not established in the supplied information where the material came from or who may be responsible.
It remains unclear whether Philippine laws were violated.
The status and findings of forensic examinations of seized computer equipment are not yet resolved.
