Sony lifts annual profit outlook to $8.4bn

Sony raised its annual earnings forecast to 1.33 trillion yen, or $8.4 billion, for the fiscal year to March, citing strong sales in games, music and movies.

The Japanese technology and entertainment group had previously forecast 1.21 trillion yen in annual earnings in July.

Sony said second-quarter net profit rose 44 percent to 449.6 billion yen, driven largely by games and films.

In games, the company said sales were helped by favourable foreign exchange rates and strong sales of new titles. In movies, Sony cited higher theatrical revenue, including from “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, which was released in July.
