Samsung Pay launches in Morocco with Mastercard

Mastercard said it is supporting the launch of Samsung Pay in Morocco, allowing eligible Mastercard cardholders at participating banks to make payments with compatible Samsung devices.

The company said the service uses Mastercard tokenization technology, which replaces sensitive card details with a digital token during transactions. Mastercard said authentication and risk-based safeguards add further protection.

Mastercard said participating financial institutions can offer the payment option to eligible cardholders, while merchants that accept supported contactless payments can accommodate Samsung Pay.

Mohamed Benomar, Mastercard's country manager for North West Africa, said the launch is intended to expand access to digital payment options using Mastercard Digital Enablement Service.

Hongseok Lee, president of Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab, said Samsung Pay is meant to make payments possible through compatible smartphones or smartwatches.

Mastercard and Samsung said they will run a joint campaign in Morocco to promote Samsung Pay and educate consumers on how to use it.
