Nvidia tells clients to limit China work, FT says

Nvidia has told its data centre partners to reduce exposure to Chinese customers, the Financial Times reported, citing five people with knowledge of the matter.

The newspaper reported that Nvidia's cloud computing clients must sell at least 51% of their services to non-Chinese companies. It said the new rules apply only to future contracts and not existing agreements.

Nvidia neither confirmed nor denied the report to AFP. The company said data centres and clouds built on American chips were needed for American model and application makers to compete worldwide.

Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said she was not aware of the report. She said China hoped all parties would provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from all countries, including Chinese companies.

China and the United States are competing for dominance in artificial intelligence. The two countries have traded accusations in recent months over stealing AI technologies and endangering security.
