Mojtaba Khamenei says hopes for US policy shift are mistaken
Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Wednesday that anyone expecting US policy toward Iran to change after partisan shifts in Washington was “seriously mistaken,” a day after US midterm elections dealt a blow to President Donald Trump.
In a written statement published on his website, Khamenei said people who thought concessions to the United States could dissuade Washington from hostility toward Iran were also mistaken.
The statement followed an earlier warning from Khamenei that the Middle East war would widen if the United States resumed attacks on Iran. “Should such aggressions be repeated, its scope will become much wider,” he said in the written message.
Khamenei has not appeared in public since taking office in March.
