ECB succession candidates to be discussed on November 9
Euro area finance ministers will discuss candidates to replace European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde on November 9 in Brussels, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
EU countries have until Friday to submit nominations. The spokesman said Eurogroup president Kyriakos Pierrakakis had called on member states to send names by then and that ministers would take stock of the nominations at their November 9 meeting.
Lagarde announced last week that she would step down in February, months before the end of her term. EU leaders will appoint her replacement based on a recommendation from euro area finance ministers.
Uncertainty notes
