Ebola: US-bound flyers must declare DRC travel
US-bound international air passengers must declare that they have not recently travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo under new Ebola rules coming into force on Tuesday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Anyone boarding an international flight to the United States must sign a statement that they have not been present in the DRC in the 21 days before travel, the CDC said.
The CDC said the rule is a public health measure intended to reduce the risk of Ebola being introduced into the United States through air travel.
Africa's latest Ebola outbreak has killed more than 5,300 people, the vast majority of them in the DRC, according to the continent's top health agency.
Uncertainty notes
The item does not specify how the declaration requirement will be enforced or what happens to passengers who have recently been in the DRC.
