Canada mother and daughter killed in suspected bear attack

A mother and daughter were found dead near a hiking trail in western Canada after a suspected grizzly bear attack, British Columbia conservation authorities said.

The pair had gone walking near their home close to Bella Coola, and relatives reported them missing on Sunday, media reports said.

The first victim was found Monday and the second a day later. The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service described the case as a "suspected fatal grizzly bear attack".

The service said it was not yet clear whether more than one bear was involved. It said any bear found to have been involved "will be dispatched".

A school group was attacked by a bear in the same area in November last year. Eleven people, including children, were injured, some seriously.
