Man dies after tiger attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

A man died on Saturday after police said he entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster and was attacked by a tiger.

South Yorkshire Police said it received reports at about 1:30 p.m. local time of a man entering the enclosure. “The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury,” the force said.

Emergency services attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the tiger remained inside the enclosure after the incident and there was no wider risk to the public. All visitors were evacuated.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed that a “serious incident” had taken place at its tiger enclosure, leading to the closure of the attraction. The park is due to remain closed on Sunday.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances by road and an air ambulance to the scene.

The park's “Land of the Tigers” feature has a 300-metre raised walkway from which visitors can view Amur tigers in an enclosure with woodland, grassland and a waterfall pool. There are estimated to be only about 500 of the endangered subspecies left in the wild.
