Yandex data centre in Vladimir shut after drone attack
A Yandex data centre in Vladimir, east of Moscow, completely suspended operations after a UAV attack damaged infrastructure, the Russian technology company said Sunday.
Yandex said no one was injured. It said emergency services were at the site and the company was assessing how to restore operations.
The company said the platform was operating in emergency mode and advised users to activate disaster-recovery plans. It warned that the remaining resource configuration was unstable and that technical support communications could also be disrupted while teams assessed the damage.
Yandex runs Russia's most popular search engine, as well as food-ordering and taxi apps used by tens of millions of people.
The Vladimir incident was the third reported attack on a Yandex data centre within a week. On Friday, Yandex said a drone attack damaged a data centre in the Kaluga region, putting several modules out of service and disrupting some services. A night earlier, an attack sparked a fire at a Yandex facility in the Ryazan region and caused major outages affecting transport and e-commerce platforms.
Uncertainty notes
The origin of the UAV was not established in the supplied information.
The full extent of the damage and the time needed to restore operations were not yet clear.
