Woody Allen films 51st movie in Madrid

Woody Allen is filming his 51st movie in Madrid, where city officials are promoting the Spanish capital as a production hub.

AFP saw the 90-year-old director overseeing a set in central Madrid on Wednesday as roads were closed and onlookers gathered. Allen began shooting the film earlier this month.

At a press conference earlier this month, Allen said Madrid was “elegant and beautiful” and suited the diplomatic atmosphere he wanted for the story. He described the unnamed film as a comedy with romance, intrigue and infidelity; city hall said its title will contain the word Madrid.

Madrid city hall said the movie will generate almost 1,200 direct jobs and nearly 2,300 indirect jobs. The city and regional governments have both contributed financially to the production.

Allen has made many recent films in Europe after being largely ostracised in Hollywood. Dylan Farrow accused him of molesting her as a child in 1992; Allen denies the allegation and has not been convicted of a crime.

Uncertainty notes

The film's full title has not been named.
