West Bank shooting wounds five; Israel says two killed
The Israeli military said its troops killed two suspected Palestinian assailants near Hebron in the West Bank on Friday after an early-morning shooting wounded at least five people.
Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency medical rescue service, said two of the wounded were in critical condition.
The military said soldiers went to the Judea Junction area after what it called a shooting attack and were continuing searches there.
The incident came amid heightened tensions in the West Bank, including over attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian olive harvesters, and days before Israeli elections.
Uncertainty notes
The identities of the two people killed were not provided.
Responsibility for the initial shooting is based on the Israeli military's account.
