Wall Street rises as bank earnings offset chip weakness
Wall Street stocks rose in early trading Tuesday as earnings from large US banks supported the market while semiconductor shares weakened.
About 20 minutes after the open, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3 percent at 52,002.97. The S&P 500 rose 0.1 percent to 7,811.13, and the Nasdaq was little changed at 27,245.07.
JPMorgan Chase pointed to continued strength in technology investment and consumer activity. Goldman Sachs results also helped support sentiment around banks.
Chip companies including Micron and Nvidia fell alongside South Korean rivals.
David Morrison, senior market analyst at FCA, said semiconductor weakness could prompt investors to move money into sectors that have not performed as well in 2026.
