UK deports man jailed for arson at Keir Starmer homes
Britain has deported Stanislav Carpiuc, a Romanian man who was jailed for two years in June for arson attacks on two properties linked to then British prime minister Keir Starmer, the Home Office said Saturday.
The ministry did not say which country Carpiuc was sent to. He was found guilty alongside Ukrainian citizen Roman Lavrynovych, who received a seven-year prison sentence over the May 2025 attacks on two London houses and a vehicle.
The court found that the men acted on the orders of a Russian-speaking Telegram contact identified as “EL” and saved in their phones as “El Money”. It found Carpiuc was tasked with trying to collect money offered for carrying out the attacks.
Several British media outlets have linked the attacks to Russian online sabotage, but the judge did not identify a direct Russian link in his summing up. A BBC investigation named “EL” as Russian diplomat Evgeny Lyukshin, while the Financial Times reported that the organiser posted in Telegram groups for Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking people seeking work in London.
Uncertainty notes
The country to which Carpiuc was deported was not stated.
A direct Russian link was not identified by the judge, despite media reporting about Russian online sabotage.
