TSMC profit hits record NT$763.1 billion on AI demand
TSMC said Thursday its third-quarter net profit rose 68.7% from a year earlier to a record NT$763.1 billion, or US$23.6 billion, helped by global demand for AI hardware.
The Taiwanese company said the July-September result was its sixth straight record quarterly net profit and surpassed the NT$706.6 billion record set in April-June 2026. Quarterly revenue rose 50.9% to NT$1.5 trillion.
TSMC is the world's biggest contract maker of microchips, including chips used in Nvidia AI data centre processors. It also builds chips for companies including Apple, AMD and Broadcom.
The company said its business was supported by strong demand for its leading-edge process technologies. Its planned expansion in the United States, including chip plants in Arizona, is likely to shape future earnings.
TSMC's share price has risen nearly 60% this year. Zavier Wong, a market analyst at eToro, told AFP ahead of the earnings announcement that TSMC sits at the centre of the AI ecosystem and that investors would look beyond headline profits for guidance and warning signs.
