Tanker hit by projectile off Oman, UKMTO says

A tanker was hit by an “unknown projectile” off Oman's coast near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, sparking a fire, the British maritime security agency UKMTO said.

The vessel was 11 nautical miles, around 20 kilometres, off the town of Bukha and was later at anchor, UKMTO said. The agency said all crew were reported safe and there was no reported environmental impact at the time.

UKMTO also reported a separate incident off Iraq on Tuesday, saying a projectile hit a tanker 30 nautical miles from Al Faw and caused no casualties or damage. The agency did not identify who fired either projectile.

The Strait of Hormuz carried 20 percent of the world's oil and gas before the Middle East war, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.

Uncertainty notes

UKMTO described the projectile off Oman as unknown and did not identify who fired it.
The source material does not name either tanker or give cargo details.
No casualty or environmental impact was reported at the time, but later assessments could change.
