Syria gas pipeline damaged in fourth sabotage in weeks

Syria's state petroleum company said on October 15 that the Jabsa production gas pipeline in Al-Hasakah province had been damaged in a sabotage attack, causing a fire.

The company said relevant authorities were monitoring the situation, the area had been cordoned off, isolation valves on both sides of the targeted section had been closed and the surrounding area had been secured, according to SANA.

The incident was the fourth reported sabotage-related attack on a Syrian energy conduit in recent weeks. The state petroleum company said last week that an oil pipeline in the northeast had also been damaged in a sabotage attack. SANA reported that sabotage targeting a gas pipeline in eastern Syria caused an explosion on September 29, and an early October explosion at a gas pipeline near Damascus took three power stations offline.

Syria's oil, gas and electricity sectors were devastated by years of civil war before the fall of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, leaving the country heavily reliant on imports to meet its needs.
