Sharjah unveils Uruk sustainable city project
Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, American University of Sharjah and SEE Holding have unveiled Uruk, a planned sustainable city model presented at the opening of the second edition of Sharjah Next.
The partners said Uruk is designed to use artificial intelligence, resource independence and local production to support urban living. They said the city would produce energy from solar, wind and biogas, use groundwater desalination and treated water reuse, and include circular waste management.
They also said the project would support indoor and outdoor farming, fish, eggs and honey production, robotics for services including deliveries, cleaning and security, and walking, cycling, electric and shared mobility.
The partners described Uruk as a living laboratory where researchers, students and entrepreneurs could test emerging technologies in real-world conditions.
