Saudi says Houthi drone downed in Mecca region

The Saudi-led coalition said Friday it intercepted and destroyed a drone in Saudi Arabia's Mecca region, while Yemen's Houthis denied targeting Islam's holiest city.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki wrote on X that a drone launched by what he called the Houthi militia had been intercepted and destroyed in the region.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree rejected the Saudi statement, calling it a fabrication.

Saudi Arabia has previously reported Houthi missiles fired in the Mecca region several times. The Houthis have denied firing toward the holy city.
