Ramallah raid wounds two Palestinians, officials say

Israeli army fire wounded two Palestinians during a raid in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The ministry said a hospital received a young man with a serious gunshot wound to the lower back and a 14-year-old with a live bullet wound to the upper thigh. It also reported numerous suffocation cases.

AFP journalists saw Israeli soldiers at the former headquarters of the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, where they removed documents, furniture, office equipment and folders. The soldiers also reaffixed an order closing the organisation’s premises.

Israel closed Addameer’s office in August 2022, along with six other Palestinian NGOs and civil society groups, after designating them “terrorist organisations”.

AFP journalists and eyewitnesses said Israeli forces were deployed in the neighbourhood for nearly four hours, fired tear gas and stun grenades toward reporters, and that four reporters were wounded. The Israeli army did not immediately comment on the Ramallah operation.

In a separate statement on Tuesday, the Israeli army said it had foiled an attack in the northern West Bank and apprehended four Islamic Jihad members. It also said it arrested a wanted man in Beit Rima, near Ramallah, on suspicion of arms trafficking.

Uncertainty notes

The Israeli army had not immediately commented on the Ramallah operation.
The exact circumstances in which the two Palestinians and four reporters were wounded remain based on the cited accounts.
