Strait of Hormuz tanker attack injures 12, India says
India said 12 crew members on the Panama-flagged tanker MT On Peace were injured Tuesday when the commercial vessel was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
India's foreign ministry said the tanker had 19 crew members, including 17 Indians. It said 11 of the injured crew members were Indian.
The ministry said the injured crew members were evacuated with the assistance of Omani authorities and were receiving medical treatment in Khasab, Oman. It condemned the attack.
India said continuing attacks on shipping in the region were a cause of deep concern and called for an immediate end to attacks on commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure.
India is one of the largest contributors of sailors to merchant shipping worldwide. New Delhi said an attack on a cargo ship in the same region last month killed an Indian sailor.
