Nigel Farage terror plot: murder suspect charged
A 28-year-old man already charged with murdering former British lawmaker Ann Widdecombe has also been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, including against Nigel Farage, police said Friday.
Police said Joshua Kerry was charged with one count of preparing acts of terrorism for actions allegedly carried out between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026. He is due to appear in a London magistrates' court on October 7.
Farage leads Reform UK, the party Widdecombe had joined after serving for years as a Conservative member of parliament. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood offered sympathy to Farage and his family and said the case raised serious questions about the security of people in public life.
Kerry was charged in July with Widdecombe's murder after she was found dead at her home aged 78. A prosecutor handling that case told a court in July that Kerry allegedly attacked Widdecombe with a hammer after travelling from Rotherham in northern England.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans said the new charge followed a complex investigation involving detectives, analysts and forensic experts.
Uncertainty notes
The terrorism charge concerns alleged actions that have not been proven in court.
The detailed basis of the alleged terrorism preparation was not set out beyond the police statement described in the source item.
