Nigel Farage terror plot accused faces murder trial
Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old British man, will stand trial on June 8, 2027, over charges that he prepared terrorist acts involving Nigel Farage and murdered former politician Anne Widdecombe.
Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb set a single trial date for both offences at the Old Bailey in London on Friday after hearing prosecution arguments. Kerry appeared by video link from jail and was remanded in custody.
Court documents accuse Kerry of researching several prominent people, including Farage. Prosecutors allege he travelled to Farage's home address in April 2025, where the politician's partner later found damage to the door and a bottle of lighter fluid in the porch.
Prosecutor Jonathan Polnay told the court that Kerry was alleged to have been “particularly hostile” toward Farage's Reform UK party. He alleged Widdecombe's killing had a “terrorist connection” and was linked to Kerry's earlier alleged activities.
Kerry is charged with murdering Widdecombe on July 8, 2026, and with preparing terrorist acts between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026. His lawyer, Nicholas Lumley, said Kerry was likely to contest all the charges against him.
Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her remote home in southwestern England on July 9. She was a Conservative MP from 1987 to 2010 and later a spokesperson for Reform UK.
Uncertainty notes
The charges and detailed account of the alleged attack remain allegations before trial.
Kerry's lawyer said he was likely to contest the charges, but the item does not state that pleas were entered.
