Moldova to name power line Trump Liberty Line

Moldova will name a planned power line to Romania the Trump Liberty Line after a proposal from the US Embassy, Moldovan government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici said on Wednesday.

The 400kV Straseni-Gutinas line is intended to link Moldova with neighbouring EU member Romania. Ciorici said the government had no objections to the name and supported initiatives that benefit citizens and protect Moldova's energy infrastructure.

The US government approved $130 million in financing for the line in 2025. The project is expected to run for about 70 kilometres inside Moldova and to be completed in 2032.

The US Embassy said on Facebook on Tuesday that a working group had been launched for the Trump Liberty Line, calling it an important step for Moldova's energy future.
