Moldova summons Russian envoy over airspace incursions
Moldova summoned Russia's ambassador on October 3 after officials said five drones and missiles crossed into Moldovan airspace from the war in neighbouring Ukraine and exploded near settlements.
Officials said the incidents caused some damage but no casualties. Moldova's foreign ministry urged Moscow to prevent further incidents.
President Maia Sandu said the incidents showed Russia's war in Ukraine was “reaching Moldova”. She said Moscow was putting lives at risk across Europe.
The Moldovan government says there have been dozens of incursions this year by Russian and Iranian-made missiles and drones. It has repeatedly closed its airspace and warned that the incidents endanger aviation security.
Moldova is not a NATO member but has supported Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
