Moldova border officer hurt after Ukraine strikes

A Moldovan border police officer sustained minor injuries on Monday after a projectile fell near the Palanca crossing on the border with Ukraine and ricocheted into a bus, Moldova's border police said.

The police said the projectile fell at around 09:38 near the south-eastern crossing, about 60 kilometres from the Ukrainian port city of Odesa. A control booth was also damaged.

Moldovan authorities said no other casualties had been reported. Operations at the Palanca crossing were temporarily suspended.

The incident followed Russian attacks on infrastructure in neighbouring Ukraine. Moldova summoned Russia's ambassador twice last week amid a rise in airspace violations, accusing Moscow of endangering Moldovan citizens.

Five drones and missiles exploded near Moldovan villages on Saturday, with no casualties reported. Moldova has closed its airspace several times this year and warned that such incidents endanger aviation security.

Uncertainty notes

The type and exact origin of the projectile are not specified.
The expected duration of the Palanca crossing suspension is not specified.
